Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

       It is a complete educational and training programme to prepare graduate occupational therapists who independently can undertake and execute effectively diagnostics and therapeutic management of Physical and Mental disorders through physical and occupational methods. Occupational Therapy, also known as ergomedicine (alternative medicine ), is a fast developing branch of medical science. Its prospects are very demanding in various branches of medical sciences like Neurology, Orthopaedics, Burn, Oncology, Paediatrics, and even in Psychological conditions like mental retardation.

      Following are some common conditions finding prospects or scope of occupational therapy Intervention.

1.)  Orthopaedic Cases   like cervical spondylitis, Periarthritis, low back pain, etc.

• Activities to increases range, if movement is restricted.
• Teaching proper body mechanics.
• Work simplification and energy conservation is progressive disorders like muscular dystrophy or rheumatoid arthritis.

2.)  In neurological conditions    like hemiplegia, cerebral palsy etc.

• Integration of pathological reflexes.
• Normalisation of muscle tone.
• Motor mile-stone development.
• Management of associated problems like drooling.

3.)   In mental retardation    A.D.L. training.

• Supervision in vocational unit
• Pre-Vocational skills assessment and job analysis
• Sensory Integration therapy to teach new skills.
• Behaviour modification therapy to teach socially occupational norms.

3.)   In spinal-cord injury  

• Improving muscle strength incomplete damage to spinal cord.
• Prevent pressure sores.
• Prescribing A.D.L. aids and appliances.

3.)   In psychiatric conditions  

• To build strong inter personal relationship through appropriate activities to give the patients an outlet to their unconscious mind.
